The Louisiana Regional STEM Network (LaSTEM) is a system of STEM leadership entities strategically positioned across Louisiana, similar to the Regional Labor Market Areas (RLMAs) identified by the Louisiana Workforce Commission to improve access to STEM education, participation, and advancement from Pre-K to Grey.

This includes closing the opportunity gap for underrepresented and underserved populations to engage in Louisiana’s STEM workforce and economy.  Regions will share information, work together, and be interconnected by coordination of resources which can also provide a gateway to other networks and initiatives. The Regional STEM Networks and Centers are connected with and serve the statewide LaSTEM Advisory Council.

Regional STEM Network Funding

The Louisiana Legislature appropriates funding each year to support the STEM activities and events in each region.

Additional program support is received through sponsorships, grants, and donations from regional, state, and national partners.

LASTEM ADVISORY COUNCIL

Created in 2017 by Legislative Act 392, the LASTEM Advisory Council established 9 Regional STEM Centers strategically positioned within each Regional Labor Market Area in Louisiana. Each center focuses on the needs of their regional stakeholders and communities while developing collaborations with LaSTEM centers across the state to increase the impact of our network.

ACT 392

ACT 392 of the 2017 Legislative Session creates the LaSTEM Advisory Council to oversee the creation and delivery of STEM programs in Louisiana.

Act 392 creates the Louisiana Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Advisory Council and provide for its membership, powers, duties, and functions; to create and provide with respect to the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Education Fund; to provide for a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics high school diploma endorsement; and to provide for related matters.
